Author Guidelines

Aims and Scope

The Iranian Journal of Burns and Wound Research is a semi-annual journal concerned with all aspects of preventing and treating the effects of burns and wounds. This journal focuses on the scientific, clinical, and social aspects of burn injuries and regenerative medicine and covers the prevention of these injuries, the epidemiology of these injuries, and all aspects of injury treatment, especially the development of new techniques and technologies. Also, this journal focuses on the occurrence and treatment of wounds, ulcers, and pressure sores, including patient care, pain, nutrition, wound healing, research, prevention, mobility, social problems, and management. Guide for Authors

Please read the guidelines below and then visit the submission site of this journal to upload your manuscript. Please note that manuscripts not conforming to these guidelines may be returned.

Manuscript Submission Guidelines:

Iranian Journal of Burns and Wound Research is a member of the Committee on Publication Ethics. Only manuscripts of sufficient quality that meet the aims and scope of the Iranian Journal of Burns and Wound Research will be reviewed.

As part of the submission process, you will be required to warrant that you are submitting your original work, that you have the rights to the manuscript, and that you are submitting the manuscript for first publication in the journal, it is not being considered for publication elsewhere, and you have obtained and can supply all necessary permissions for the reproduction of any copyright works not owned by you. The Journal of Iranian Journal of Burns and Wound Research is an official member of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and any cases of suspected misconduct will be assessed during the peer-review and publication process based on COPE guidelines.

1. What do we publish?

1.1. Aims & Scope

Before submitting your manuscript to the Iranian Journal of Burns and Wound Research, please ensure you have read the Aims and scope.

1.2. Article types

The Iranian Journal of Burns and Wound Research features original/research papers, reviews, brief reports, case reports, and letters to the editor.

2. Editorial policies

2.1. Peer-review policy

The reviewers will referee submissions deemed suitable by the editors within three weeks based on specific research reporting guidelines. All authors should send their revised manuscripts within two weeks. Reviewers' and authors' identities are kept confidential. The existence of a submitted manuscript is not revealed to anyone other than the reviewers and editorial staff.

2.2. Authorship

Based on the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) recommendations, all authors must meet the following authorship criteria:

2.2.1. Each author must have contributed substantially to the work and made a substantial contribution to the conception or design of the work or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data.

2.2.2. Based on COPE guidelines, any change in authorship (i.e., order, addition, and deletion of authors) after initial submission must be approved by all authors via written confirmation.

3. Preparing your manuscript

Manuscript preparation

Generally, the following formats should proceed for a submitted manuscript:

- Microsoft Word (DOC, DOCX)

- Double line space

- Fonts 12 Times New Roman

- Continues page numbering at the bottom of the pages

- To ensure a blind review, insert the Title page on a separate page.

- Cover letter, Figure original file, and other supporting files should be uploaded in submission step 4 as a supplementary file.

Cover letter

All submitted manuscripts should be accompanied by a cover letter containing the rationale for performing the research and selecting the Iranian Journal of Burns and Wound Research and a statement that the proposed manuscript is not published or under consideration in another journal until the reviewing process is completed. Also, please indicate whether the authors have published or submitted related papers from the same study. Finally, any possible conflicts of interest must be declared.

CONTENTS

Each manuscript component should begin on a new page, in the following sequence: Title page; Abstract and keywords; Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, Acknowledgements, References, Acknowledgements, Funding, Declaration of conflicting interests, Ethics Approval, Tables (each table complete with title and footnotes on a separate page) and Legends for illustrations.

Highlights

Highlights are required for this journal as they help improve your article's search engine visibility. They are composed of a brief list of bullet points that summarize both the original findings of your study and the novel research techniques used in it. Highlights should be submitted in a separate editable file in the online submission system. Please use "Highlights" in the file name and include 3 to 5 bullet points (maximum 100 characters, including spaces, per bullet point).

3.1. Title page

The title page should include the article title, short title, author(s) name(s), institution affiliation, and the name and address (including email) of the corresponding author.

3.2. Main Manuscript

3.2.1. Abstract & Keywords

A concise, factual, and structural abstract of up to 250 words should briefly state the purpose of the research, the principal results, and the major conclusions. References should be avoided. Also, non-standard or uncommon abbreviations should be avoided, but if essential, they must be defined at their first mention in the abstract itself. Immediately after the abstract, provide between 5 to 10 keywords, using keywords extracted from Medical Subject Headings from the PubMed/MEDLINE database. These keywords will be used for indexing purposes.

3.2.2. Introduction:

Express the necessary background and goals of your work. Provide an overview of the literature related to your topic.

3.2.3. Methods:

Provide detailed details of how your manuscript works so that a researcher can reproduce your work.

3.2.4. Results:

Results should be clear and concise.

3.2.5. Discussion:

This section should show the importance of your work. In this section, the authors should compare the results of their manuscript with other researchers.

3.2.6. Conclusions:

The main conclusions of the study may be presented in a short conclusion section.

3.2.7. References:

Please ensure that every reference cited in the manuscript is also in the reference list (and vice versa). Unpublished results and personal communications are not recommended in the reference list but can be used as a quotation in the text. Indicate references by number(s) in square brackets in line with the text. All the references cited in the main text should be listed as they appear in the text at the end of the manuscript under a separate heading entitled "References".

Standard Vancouver reference style should be followed as shown below:

3.2.8. Acknowledgements

Collate acknowledgments in a separate section at the end of the article before the references. Authors can use this section to acknowledge and thank those individuals who provided help during the research (e.g., providing language help, writing assistance, or proofreading the article, etc.).

3.2.9. Funding

All sources of funding and the role of the sponsor(s) for the research should be listed under' Financial Support'. Authors with no funding sources supporting their work should state, "This research received no specific grant from any funding agency in the public, commercial, or not-for-profit sectors".

3.2.10. Declaration of conflicting interests

Authors are expected to disclose any commercial associations or sources of support that might pose a conflict of interest regarding the submitted article. If no conflict exists, please state that: "The Author(s) declare(s) that there is no conflict of interest".

3.2.11. Research ethics and patient consent

Please note that if research ethics considerations are not addressed adequately in both the abstract and the manuscript's text, your submission will be unsubmitted or rejected. All papers reporting animal and human studies must include whether written consent was obtained from the local Ethics Committee or Institutional Review Board. Please ensure that you have provided the full name and institution of the review committee and an Ethics Committee reference number. Any reasons for waiving to obtain informed consent must be declared.

3.2.12. Research Participants' Consent

Human studies must have the informed consent of the participants and be documented in the manuscript.

3.2.13. Figures and Tables

Figures and tables should be kept to a minimum necessary and presented at the end of the manuscript file after the references are numbered, and have a title. Figures supplied in color will appear in color online regardless of whether or not these illustrations are reproduced in color in the printed version.

3.2.14. Supplementary material

Supplementary materials are additional files that can be submitted alongside the manuscript file. They are not essential to understanding the manuscript but can provide additional information or context that may interest readers. Supplementary materials, including appendices, tables, figures, datasets, videos, podcasts etc. Supplementary materials are typically published online alongside the journal article.

3.3. Article-processing and publication charge

Iranian Journal of Burns and Wound Research provides Open Access and freely available content, immediately upon publication. This is made possible by charging a fixed article-processing charge (APC) for each accepted article since January 1, 2024 (Iranian authors only).

APC will be billed to the corresponding author upon editorial acceptance and before publication. These fees cover a range of publishing services including providing and maintaining online tools, processing the manuscripts, connecting with abstracting and indexing services, plagiarism checks, and providing DOI. No submission charges or color image charges exist apart from the APC.

We will consider waivers or discounts in cases of genuine need. Therefore, authors who are not able to pay the APC, are encouraged to contact the journal by sending an email to admin@IJBWR.com to explain their reasons. To apply for a waiver please request after editorial acceptance. A decision on the waiver will normally be made within two working days.

Currently, publication in this journal is free of charge for non-Iranian authors, and there are no submission or publication charges. Also, there is no fee for using color images.

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration.
  2. The submission file is in Microsoft Word document file format (DOC, DOCX).
  3. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  4. If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.
  5. In the "Comments for the Editor" box, please recommend at least three potential reviewers for this submission. Make sure these individuals are qualified to assess your work. The suggested reviewers shouldn't be your current or recent collaborators, and they should not have helped in preparing the manuscript. Additionally, reviewers must not be affiliated with the same institution as the authors.
  6. The author(s) confirm that the data supporting the findings of this study are available within the article [and/or] its supplementary materials. If not, you can request the data supporting the study's findings from the corresponding author.
  7. The author(s) confirm that all potential conflicts of interest are disclosed in the manuscript.
  8. The author(s) confirm that the listed authors have made a substantive contribution to the article, and they read and approved the final version of the submitted manuscript. The author's contribution is mentioned in the article. After a manuscript is accepted, no changes to the list of authors can be made. If there are any changes after the first submission, everyone involved, including the editorial office, has to agree.
  9. Cover letter (is mandatory), Figure file, and other supporting files should be uploaded in submission step 4 as a supplementary file.

Material published in IJBWR is governed by the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0) license. Under the CC BY-NC 4.0 license, users are permitted to share (copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format) or adapt (remix, transform, and build upon) the material as long as its integrity is maintained and its original authors, citation details, and publisher are identified. The license also ensures that the published material can be included in any scientific archive or repository. Any personal information like names, affiliations, and contact details recorded in this journal will only be used for handling and publishing the manuscript. It won't be shared with anyone else or used for any other reasons.
